Overview & Features
Bikepacking Roots, co-founded by Kaitlyn Boyle and Kurt Refsnider, is a non-profit organization dedicated to changing peoples’ lives through transformative experiences on bikes. They’re working to protect the wild places and public lands through which we ride. And, they’re building and diversifying the bikepacking community.
Bikepacking Roots’ route development efforts are proving unmatched. They intentionally design professional routes for unique and impactful riding experiences. Routes are monitored and adjusted over time as conditions on the ground evolve. In addition, BPR offers extensive navigational, logistical, and educational route guides and resources so that riders can confidently embark on their own bikepacking adventures. Finally, they rate all their routes using the BPR Route Rating Scale to clearly articulate physical, technical, and the overall bikepacking challenge.
Bikepacking Roots represents the unique interests of bikepackers. While we, as bikepackers, share many interests with other user groups, we have our own perspective on the experiences we seek and the trails that matter to us. On our behalf, Bikepacking Roots speaks up when elected officials consider decisions that affect us. They cooperate with land managers and with other user groups to promote land conservation and access. They advocate for continued public ownership and increased protections for public lands. And, they advocate for continued access for bikepacking, especially on trails that are infrequently used but create crucial connections.
